Help Georgi to stand up

georgi-paul-gilly.jpgGeorgi contracted encephalitis when he was 6 years old. He was in a deep coma for a couple of weeks but he survived - albeit with damage to his brain which left him with cerebral palsy.

Sadly Georgi still has great difficulty talking and he cannot stand unaided - he has quite severe muscle contractures which prevent him from standing up straight and he has very limited control over his limbs, although he is able to take steps when adequately supported but the reality is that he will need of 24/7 care for the rest of his life in a country where social support for disabled people is poor to non-existent. Whatever Georgi needs now, or in the future, must be provided by his family and friends.

comfort-angel.gifWe’re currently raising money to buy him a standing wheelchair which he needs to help recover from a recent operation on his legs, and to provide him with the means to raise and lower himself between a sitting and standing position. This wheelchair will also allow Georgi┬áto move around our apartment on his own for the first time in nearly 10 years, during which time he has sat in┬áthe same chair watching the passing seasons through the same window.

The cost of the wheelchair is approximately $5000 including shipping and if we can raise 50% of this amount then it will be a big help to us.
